Default Difficulty of connection and update

Dear Friends :

I bought a SK540 unit theoretically new,but second hand and it came without the USB cable.

I downloaded the installer package from the manufacturer's website.

When I open the software and connect the unit with a generic USB cable, the status appears as connected and a green light flashes on the unit.

I enter the UTILITY option, "check for updates" and I get an error saying: "Could not contact the update server. Check to ensure that your SK720 is connected then retry."

1 - First question : My unit is the SK540, not the SK720. Is it the same software or downloaded the wrong app ??

2 - Should the connection works with a generic USB cable or only with the unit's specific USB cable ??

There is an image in attach showing the error. Image 1

When I connect the unit AFTER opening the software, a window will appear warning you of an error and requesting a firmware upgrade. - IMAGE 2

The update fails in this case as well. . IMAGE 3

Sorry my poor english , i'm from Brazil .

Thanks !!
Eduardo

On my SK540 and 720, the devices work fine with a generic USB cable so you shouldn't have any issues there.

Have you tried using the "Format Flash Drive" under the utility tab and starting from scratch with the update?

If that does not resolve the issue, I would definitely give Skookum a call and see what they can do.

Good luck

Thanks for your tip .

Unfortunately this option is inhibited in the software, as can be seen in the file in attach.

But I can open the contents of the drive in explorer. Only one file appears : SK540.CFG 1kb 01/01/2010

I was afraid to format by explorer and make it worse. But I can cut the file and then return it to the drive without any problems.

I've tested 3 different cables to make sure the cable is not the problem. With the 3 I have the same results .

When I say no to this Software Update request at startup, then I can run the update and some different information appears, as attach 1 file erro5

A version 3.15 appears and the status becomes BUSY when I do the update request .

After about 1 minute, when it seems that the update will work and be done, it results in an error attach 2 file erro6

I'm having the exact same issue. Used mine for the last two years, never crashed or hard landing. Connect today and it won't register. I've contacted SK support so hopefully they respond. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to post!

I used a DOS utility to read the disk, the information is in attach.

The disk appears intact, but has an error. Its is in Brazilian Portuguese but means "LOCAL PATH UNAVAILABLE " ...

I believe It would need to be formatted but Skookum must have its own system to prevent us from doing wrong .

If the format flash unit option at the skookum software was available , i think the problem was solved .

Please SKOOKUM HELP !!

I remember, I think, that updates had to go to V3.43 before they could update to V4.xx. Can anybody confirm that? If yours is on V 3.15 you may have to update twice.

I had this idea but had not found the download for previous versions.
I read the site more carefully, I disassigned the current version, I installed version 3.43 and gave exactly the same error, as attach.

But thanks anyway .

Yes this was an issue for many trying to jump all the way to the latest firmware from one of the much lower ones.

The trick was to download one of the closer lower versions, update, then keep creeping up the ladder this way until you could get it to reach the final version.

All the previous installer packages can be downloaded here:

Right, you cannot update 3.15 or lower, you have to do 3.43 before you update to newest. There is instructions on skookum websight for this.

Ahh, I did not think about that one: great tip!

Hopefully, PetyaHawk can get the issue resolved.

Yep, Xrayted is right. I have had to step more than one up one at a time when updating from very early software versions. They simply wouldn't go all the way no matter what I tried. Also, on a few 540s, they must be powered up using a 2s batt or bec or they won't cooperate at all and will continue to give random reasons why.

There's still the USB3 problems as well. I still had to use a USB2 hub last time I hooked up. Dan

Unfortunately I still can not solve the problem.

In the site all versions prior to 3.43 contain only the descriptive, there is no download link.

With version 3.43 I already tried it, and it did not work as I described earlier.

I will try to connect a TX battery and check the USB ports and I will come back to tell you what happened.

I'm pessimistic at this time ....

If your only using the USB to power then thats a problem you need to use a 2s lipo. I put mine on a switch. If i remember right there is a timeout limit. so its easier to use a switch.
And my first 540 was a bitch.. I had to do a complete wipe and i thought i bricked it.
If you need to do a complete wipe heres the instructions for it. Just make sure you copy the SD card files to your computer first. This wipes the gyro not the SD card.

Altered ,

Thanks for trying to help .

Something I had done trying to access the disk had made the situation worse because I had a flashing red light, which according to the manual indicates a failure.

With the procedure you indicated with a LiFE 2S and the spektrum bind plug I return to a flashing green light which according to the manual indicates a USB File Transfer conection , but I did not get a different result from the previous one. I still can not do the update and the error messages are the same ......

I tried the update with the LiFE 2S connected, and the errors remain the same.

My notebook has 3 USB doors . one 3.0 and two 2.0 . Tryed at all the 3 ... .does not work . Always the same error .

I am eagerly awaiting the manifestation of the manufacturer .... since this is a direct support forum from the manufacturer.

Why the "Format flash drive" option is not enabled ???

Where can I download previous versions to try to make the update by jumping less versions ??

Thank you ALL for trying to help !!

One more attempt in vain. I was able to download the 3.40 software on the "news and updates" page of Skookum, installed it, tried to update it and gave the same error.

I think that until I can not format the flash, I will not be able to solve the problem.

What a journey to try to make it work .....
