Default Red or yellow for visibility?

Hi all,

Do you find there's much of a difference? I'm undecided which to go for, but feel that the yellow might pop out more against cloudy background?

Is it purely subjective?

I have yellow. I believe the red (which is neon) will pop out more in cloudy conditions.

I'm a big fan of orange (red). My red 380 has great vis, but I also added matching monokote on the tail fin. I have the yellow carbon G 500 and it can become a silhouette in cloudy conditions.

Although, I put the Monster style from Fusuno on my 570 and it has great vis, but it's more of that greenish yellow and a lot more of it on the canopy than the yellow carbon.

Thanks guys, it's the silhouetting that I want to avoid with a cloudy backdrop....I reckon the images perhaps don't do the red version justice, if it's more of a neon red?

I had issues with the yellow and the black stripes blending in when I was side in. I think the red is also the better color for visibility.

The best thing for my visibility issues was putting monokote trim (sticky) on the boom. All that black needed color for contrast. Dan

I have both yellow and red, they both are so cool in their own ways but all around any lighting conditions red wins my vote for visibility.

I must be unique, yellow works much better for my eyes.

But one thing is for sure, no other small heli is as visible as a Goblin 380, love how much the boom helps.

Both look great to me but I find neither really pop to me. Red/Neon Red seem to always black out to me. Doesn't cause me an issue though. I would like to see some other schemes in Orange/Green/Yellow. Might have to break out my airbrush set.

I have a 550E in Blaze Orange and Neon Yellow..... The idea being you see yellow from the top and orange from the underside... that is Orange on the bottom, ie base plate, canopy belly skids, blade undersides, hor. fin underside, boom underside and yellow from the top view.

The inspiration struck me looking at whales and sharks, in nature and warfighters in dogfights.... White on the bottom and blue on top.... so as not to be seen... but I want to be seen, so I tried as vivid colors as I could.... I turned out pretty crazy but you can see it from a mile awayand know the orientation ie inv. or normal. The boom points the way in bright orange and the Vert fin is in both colors opposite each other so I know what way the tail is coming toward me. I did it in MonoKote.

Wanna see a pic? It is really, really orange on the underside....

Please post a pic.

We had a guy in our local group with a 550 Trex like that. We called it Punky Brewster. Not sure how many will remember that show from the 80's. You sure never lost sight of it though.

i personally like the red/ orange color from msh it stands out for me, mostly. i usually do the neon patterns like the other guys suggested. neon seems to be a good all year round color.
though one thing to think about is your background and how high/low you will fly. you may not need any neon.
i live up in the northwest near Seattle so everything is multiple shades of green and lots of other colors mixed in.
so depending on the trees in the background and the type of sky over them, overcast or sky blue/gray it can be easy to loose orientation even when in close proximity. one of the reasons i hate blade canopies they seem to think blue/green/white/black/yellow are good for canopy colors. where i fly they just disappear.
plain yellow is great but i had an align 600 that had the yellow/white canopy, fly that in the evening just before the sun goes down and get it 100 feet up and it get the sunlight, ha! gone.
i also have light sensitive eyes so on those really bright over cast days if i am not wearing sunglasses even the red/orange can go dark enough to blend with the tail boom in the clouds and make it hard to catch orientation.
so it all depends on you and your flying surroundings, but i dont think you can go wrong with neon colors in the end.
