Default Tribunus 120 amp toasted

5th flight on an eXo 500 6S using the Tribunus gov set @ 50% throttle, ~2350 head speed lazy sport flying.... dropped from about 25' when the blades stopped turning
Belt tension was modest, no seized bearings, ambient temp 72, motor & ESC not unusually hot after previous flight. Pretty good with a soldering iron, no cold joints or marginal connections.

Any thoughts on the problem, throttle % too low?

The replacement is sitting on my desk, would like to avoid a repeat though.

I would send it back, running at 50% throttle should not matter.

At 50% throttle the FETS work double as hard as at full throttle. It looks like only one FET has burnt. If you have proper cooling then 50% should be fine.

Too hot...Not enough cooling. What was the temperature protection limit set too ?

How many amps was it pulling ?

What is the maximum continuous amp rating of the motor ? volts x amps = watts

You can set protection limits up the max amp limits based on the motor. So if the motor is rated for 110 amps set the limit for 50 amps. 50 X 2 + 12 = 112 amps.

What motor, pinion are you using ? Gearing the thing as close as you can to the head speed you want to run is the best. So it is running close to 80%.

Edit: I should have said it would run cooler at 80% because it is the most efficient. I am not sure if there is a recommended range in percent from low to high rpm. With proper coooling it should have worked. If you haven't already done so contact support.

Do these ESCs have active freewheeling?

Sorry for not responding, I've had to take a break from flying.

Gearing is somewhat fixed on an eXo 500 at 7.5/1 with the supplied 20t motor pulley. There is an optional 18t pulley but they're hard to come by or were at least. I have some on order and will switch when they arrive.

Temperature protection set at 140C
I don't know how many amps it was pulling, I never got a chance to pull any data off it.
Motor max continuous amps =~100 (2400 watts)
Max amps was set @ 160! ...because I'm ignorant, misunderstood how that worked and was supposed to be set up.

Until the 18t pulley arrives I've bumped the head speed up, set the max amps to 50, added a fan and cut a hole in the canopy. What do you set your max temp to? The ambient temp has dropped about 10F so I don't expect a repeat occurrence when I get a chance to fly again.

Thanks for the help

Set the cutoff percent to 70% or higher depending on your preference.

I am not too sure about what the maximum temperature setting should be? Check the specs for the maximum temperature for the motor. But for the ESC ?
