Default Signal and Quality

Hey

I had a heli go down last month. During the post mortom i checked the logs in the jeti and saw the signal strength regularly drop below 5, 3 at its lowest.

I am not saying this caused the crash, but it is an observation.

The signal quality however stayed at 100%.

I understand the quality is arguably the more important one (providing the strength does not drop off completely), but what are acceptable numbers for signal strength and quality?

Signal strength is reported for each antenna. It's quite normal for one antenna to have a low signal while the other is still strong. Where they both low at the same time?

Having a quick look at the logs, i found one spot where antenna A1 dropped to 3, while A2 dropped to 6.

The heli is a trex 600L, the RX is mounted underneith its belly, on the bottom side of the bottom plate, between the skids. The antennas are split off and just sit where the boom support touches the frame.

I was thinking of either trying to get the antennas away from the frames a little, or swapping the RX for another REX3 but with longer antennas. The one i have got has the shortest ones.

However i have the same RX on a goblin 570, that is mounted on the rear plate underneith the boom and that one seems fine.

Hence the q about what is acceptable numbers.

Again i am not saying it has caused me any trouble. It maybe too much data visable to me is making me question things when there is no issue haha.

I donít think 3 and 6 is too low over all, especially if Q at that time was high. I use REX 3 with short antennas in a similar arrangement and never had an issue. Are you sure your crash was caused by a signal loss?

I am certain that the signal strength / quality did not have anything to do with the crash. The logs at the time didnt indicate signal loss at that time.

Its just while i was reveiwing the data i noticed it and asked myself if i need to try and make that better.

Ah OK. In that case I don't think you have reason to worry. Of course it could always be improved 👍
