Default Do you want one of these? - Fury 55G!

So take a look at this!

This is a PROTOTYPE Fury 55G.........Repeat it is a PROTOTYPE!

It was built as a proof of concept and is NOT currently scheduled for production...............unless there is significant interest in it!

Its using a PROTOTYPE TRM Power motor that is not in production............unless there is interest in this model!

Vote your interest in the poll above or send them email. Its a very cool model but unless there's an interest there won't be any more of them!

Here are some details -
  • Gassification was designed by Chris Lund, the co-designer of the Whiplash!
  • weighs just slightly over 10 lbs
  • accepts 23cc or 26cc motor
  • FB or FBL
  • 600 or 620mm blades
  • there are only two. Chris Lund has the original, and this one
  • they are working models and have been flown pretty hard
  • the Fury 55 platform has adapted very well to the new power system
  • its an XCell and it flies like one!
  • except for a few key parts, its a Fury 55
  • performance is very good, its a 700 class gas motor in a light 600 class helicopter
  • I'll post some video sometime in the near future
  • DON'T CALL Miniature Aircraft and ask them when it will be available! If you want one Vote for it here!

Is the cooling fan the sole source of flywheel weight?

Looks sexy. I voted yes.

Carey,

Can you share any specific details about the engine (make/model) used in the prototype?

It's obviously not an 'RC format' engine....and the limited views of the crank case also seem to rule out a 'PUH' format, as well.

Thanks!

only that its a prototype motor built by TRM Power. It can be built as a 23cc or 26cc motor. Its very light and uses an RCExL EI ignition.

I'm not trying to be elusive, but unless the model goes into production the motor won't be built either so there's no point in spinning up a lot of traffic.

whats really interesting about the model is the power to weight ratio. At only 10lbs its much closer to what you would find in a glow setup.

Carey,

Were you able to use the same pack to power both the ignition and the radio gear?

Can't wait for some video!!.

yes, its been done both ways. If you look in the photos at the frame above the fuel tank, you can see the cutouts for mount straps for a separate pack.

however I'm running a Fromeco 3 lead switched regulator with one lead going to the rx, one going to the GY750 and the other one powering the EI. The on/off switch powers up everything. Now, if the EI decides to dump a bunch of ugly stuff on the bus, then bad things may happen but so far I've had no issues.

Chris has his setup with a separate power feed for the EI but its off the main pack as well

been struggling a little bit with a defective ignition. It had to go back to China to determine that it had a bad solder joint in it and wouldn't rev correctly past about 10K RPMs. Thats working okay now.

should have some video in the next coupla weeks.

Give this ignition a look: Power Spark

I'm sure it's priced a bit beyond something that you'd likely OEM, but for someone who likes to experiment, it's got lots of cool features and flexibility. Power Spark sells plug and play Zenoah kits.....popular with some of the Euro marine guys.

Just get a Syssa Aircraft IBE (Ignition Battery Eliminator). Most of the giant scale guys are using them and loving them. I have one on my 25% Yak.

Carey,

What can you tell me about the ignition timing on that unit? How much advance? At what RPM...etc....?

Thanks!

The initial advance is set at 30 degrees on this motor.

I've never put together a rig to try to map the ignition curve, it just follows the std curve thats inherent within the RCExL ignition unit. The ignition is good until about 20K rpms

too soon to say, it depends on how many are made of course. So the more people that express interest, the more likely more will be made.

Might be available as a conversion as well, it uses a great deal of the original Fury 55 model.

I know the pole is closed, I have not been too active, total knee replacement, but I definately would be interested in one. I like the compact design, forward facing engine, lighter weight. Add me to the yes pole.
P.S. Carey send me your CGY750 setting for the Spectra. Just got theSBE-1's and setting them up with JR 12x . Thanks, Dave
