Default Problems connecting transmitter

Hi
I'm new to Helifreak and flying.
I recently acquired Phoenix R/C v 5.5.1. I have managed to get this installed and updated but am having trouble connecting my transmitter.
I've plugged in the USB interface cable into the USB and the computer installs the drivers. (I'm using windows 8.
When I run through 'setup a transmitter' and plug the interface into the controller, i get to the create a new profile section and the following message come up. "You cannot set up a control-profile because your transmitter is not connected. Please connect your transmitter now to your USB interface to continue with the setup process"
I have tried deleting the USB input device driver from Human interface devices but when I reconnect the USB I get the same problem.
oh and I am using a Nine Eagles J6pro controller
Please help

Pretty sure it's your Nine Eagles Controller. Phoenix doesn't have a clue what that is. Get a Spektrum and you should be good to go. If you are going ahead in the hobby, you'll need it anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply.
My father in law supplied the kit, which he recently installed on his new computer in Spain to see if it works. He had it fully operational and cannot understand why its now not connecting.
I will be looking into new controllers in time but need to save pennies first.
Any other ideas I could try would be greatly appreciated?

Is the transmitter switched on or off when you connect it up?
