Default Cybertronic Hobby's 300CFX Build

Better late than never...

I decided to take the 300X one step further...ordering each part and assembling it from the ground up with several changes

Stock 300X CF Main Frame w/blue c-washers at each screw location
Blade 300CFX CNC Head Assembly
Lynx OWB upgrade
Lynx silver tail servo mounts
KST215MG V2 servos all around
Castle Talon35 ESC
iKON V2 FBL / Spektrum DSMX sat
Stock 300CFX CF 250mm main blades
Lynx tail blades
MicroHeli CNC tail box - bell crank - pitch slider - tail shaft
Stock 300X tail grips
CF vertical and horiz fins
Gaui X4 landing gear w/front strut reversed
Blade 450X stock canopy
3S 1800 mAh 65C battery / XT60

Red accents all around to aid visibility

With a bit of luck the stock motor should arrive tomorrow...and hopefully tuning the iKON V2 FBL can commence at The International Indoor FunFly in Grand Forks on Saturday Feb 10th

Sadly...the motor is delayed for some reason...

So I took the opportunity to add the Gaui X4 boom support crossbrace and some yellow shrink tubing

Discovered a slight wobble at "The International" Indoor FunFly in Grand Forks...

Further checking revealed bad dampers in the head...

So much for the "new condition - pulled from a new 300CFX" complete head assembly

Good news is...the 300X is dialed in and ready to go...after a bit of tail tuning including Gyro Gain and Integral Gain both needing to go lower

The NIP stock motor arrived...along with the Lynx 11T pinion...

It may just be My eyesight...but the pinion doesn't seem to sit "centered" on the shaft...

LX0657S Slant Mod 0.5 3.17mm pinion

But the motor has the stepped shaft and it sure doesn't look to be centered on the shaft even after several attempts

Anyone know of a 4S or 6S motor that will fit the stock frame and motor mount?

Lynx 4S and 6S are too long to clear the bottom frame and do not fit the stock motor mount - and the Lynx motor mount doesn't fit the stock frame

I have 2 CFX300s - one with a Mystery motor and one with Turnigy motor - both 3S and loads of power. The stock motor is rubbish though...

Unless you have loads of 4S and 6S batteries that you want to re-use there is no need to change from 3S.

Thanks...

I happen to have a 12T 2.3mm pinion on hand so I ordered the Turnigy 3800kV version...

Should be here late next week

Jon, did you get this motor and did it fit? The stock motor in the 300CFX I rebuilt failed and I'm looking for options other than the stock motor.
What I'm unable to find is the shaft diameter of the stock motor. I have the stock 11 tooth pinion. Will that fit the Turnigy motors? And did the motor fit in the stock motor mount and frame?
Jon or anyone, Is the Turnigy 4200kva 2627 with an 11 tooth pinion a good replacement for the stock motor? This is an area of detail I have no real understanding of. My tendency is to keep it simple and buy another stock motor. There are no uncertainties with that . But, at less than half the price and the opinions that the stock motor is not very good, mine failed, make me want another option.

Rob,

The stock motors are junk - very noisy and the bearings fail regularly.

I have 2 300CFXs - one with a Mystery D2627 motor MYSTERY D2627-4200 RC Helicopter Outrunner Brushless Motor $12.33 Free Shipping @GoodLuckBuy.com and the other with the Turnigy 2627. Both are much better than the stock motor (of the two I prefer the Mystery - but the Turnigy is still wayyyy beter than stock)

I run 13T pinions on each - and they give great power.

Cheers,
Mike.

I sure did...and it fit perfectly...

The shaft is 2.3mm...I had a 12T pinion already so I opted for the Turnigy motor

One left if you want it...

Thanks Mike. Would an 11 tooth pinion be OK? I'm guessing that the more teeth the pinion has the higher the head speed is at any motor RPM? So the results of fewer teeth is a lower head speed at any motor RPM.
Looking closer, which I should have done before ordering something, the stock motor shaft is stepped, two diameters. I don't have anything to measure metric diameters. The mystery Motor shaft is one diameter so, it looks like I need a pinion. Are yours straight toothed? I'm going to search now for a 2.3 mm straight toothed pinion. Not sure right now what else I'll need to get the 300 back in the air.

Thanks Jon. The main gear I have is a straight tooth gear so that pinion won't work unless I buy another main gear. I may do that if I opt for a main gear with the anti rotation hub. The one I have isn't anti rotation. I can't do auto rotations so it hasn't been a priority for me. But it might help some for landing if something fails and I have to land with no power.

Sorry for stepping all over your thread Jon. I should have kept this to another thread. But it is all about me....

No problem...

But if memory serves correctly...

The Turnigy motor comes with straight pinions in the package...along with motor bullets and shrink tubing

You will need to press the pinion on though...

The standard motor is 4500kV, the Mystery and Turnigy are 4200kV - but if you use a 13T pinion with the Turnigy or Mystery motor it gives almost exactly the same HS as the standard motor and 11T pinion. Using the Turnigy / Mytery with an 11T pinion would give a low HS.

Mine are straight toothed pinion / gear.

Good info Mike. Where did you get the pinions that fit the a mystery Motor shaft?

Both the Mystery and Turnigy have a 2.3mm shaft, so you want a 2.3mm 13T 0.5M pinion
