Default First time flying a Protos max 800mm!

Man....I am stoked beyond words, had my first flight today after converting my max 700 into an 800. I always thought there would not be much difference between a 700 and an 800 but boy was I wrong. The 800 flew so smoothly and with just 1400 rpm it did everything I wanted it to do and then some, not to mention the sound and presence of it in the air. I fly smooth 3d so I think the 800 suits me like a glove and I don't think I will ever change it back to a 700. I did fly with Zeal 800mm blades and have heard a few negatives about Zeal but honestly the blade farts are amazing! I will be flying low headspeed always on this bird so I don't think there should be an issue....went over the blades and they are immaculate....we'll see. All in all I am very happy with the new Max....great heli

I never flew those blades, only switch 813s but the noise they made was impressive. I'm missing my 800 already.

@2slow2go....Hey buddy...thanks for the blades, they were packed nicely and look almost brand new. They performed really well today. Will be leaving you some positive feedback in a bit.

So glad to hear you like it. Love my 800. Still fly my 700 more but the 800 just has that “something “. Like you said so smooth. But I also have idle up 2 at 1950 so it flies as fast as my 700.

Had the same blades on my max 800, they had so much pop even after dialing down the HS.

Yeah I don't know if it's the size or the Zeal blades but at 1400 through 1600 headspeed the heli feels light as a feather with lot's of pop and the sound .....you can hear the blades biting into the air. If I want to go 1900 rpm I think I will have to upgrade the 130amp esc to a 160 or 200 amp. For my flying style 1400-1600 is all I really need. It's funny that I don't have a legerro and when I pick up the heli with two 5000 packs it feels really heavy but as soon as it's in the air that weight disappeares and it floats like a helium balloon lol!

I have never flown Zeals on any big helis but I think with the Protos Max especially with 800’s and a tame head speed, anything sounds awesome. More Blades than motor and gears you know.

I love it when I fly mine and people think it is low head speed because it doesn’t make much sound. Then I do a high speed pass and do a wall of death at center of the flight line. Makes them jump back a few feet.

Hey, all you flying low HS's. What different things are you doing on your setups vs a higher headspeed setup? Asking mostly about pitches, blade grip tightness and things like that? I know gearing and motor sizing, both physical and electrical, is very important.

Appreciate your thoughts.

I keep my settings the same. Which is 13.5 pitch. Obviously cyclic will be slower if you normally run a fast cyclic. And you have to manage the pitch/blade energy through all the maneuvers (assuming you are doing 3D stuff).

Here is a 2 year old video of a 12s setup at 1350 RPM 800mm.
