Default Switching from Spektrum - 16sz or 18sz

Which one should I get? I like the black of the 16, but if the 18 is THAT much better, might as well go ahead right?

Coming from a DX8G2 so I'm sure feature wise, either will be nice.

I think the 18SZ has better gimbals. You will probably also want to check that the 16 supports all protocols (FHSS, T-FHSS, FASST, and FASSTest).

I am sure you can't go wrong with either.

Thanks, I believe it supports all of them.

Based on the research I have been doing, I just stumbled on to another question.

Can you not assign voice alerts to switch change events on the 16sz or the 18sz?

The 16SZ and 18SZ are identical in the firmware. The differences are hardware. This means both transmitters support all of Futaba’s protocols.
The gimbals in the 18SZ are the same gimbals in the 18MZ. The gimbals in the 16SZ are the same as the 14SG. The difference is the 18SZ gimbals has a few more adjustments you can make, reduced travel on collective/throttle, and quad bearing gimbals. The 16SZ is dual bearings and regular travel on collective.
I enjoy the reduced collective travel for 3D flying.
The timing of maneuvers that require a broad sweep of the collective became easier for me.
The next difference is trim switches the 18SZ has six; the 16SZ has four.
Last is the obvious, the finish. 18SZ is silver, 16SZ is black.

You can setup switched voice alerts for telemetry items, such as mAh consumed or voltage.

Thanks for the detail! Seems I would lean toward the 18 then.

Let me clarify my question regarding switches. On my DX8G2 now, when I change a switch I get voice alerts as to what changed. Example, switching head speeds from IU1 to IU2, the TX says "Idle Up 2". Can the 18sz be programmed to do the same?

No, the SZ transmitters do not have that as a specific feature.

Seems silly they don't have this. The 18MZ has more capability when it comes to voice and alerts.

I agree! I was all fired up to get back to Futaba (long time fan since early 90's in surface RC) and found this and a couple other things to be lacking from the 16 & 18sz. Ultimately couldn't justify the switch right now. Hopefully new firmware will bring new features!
