Default Servos

I've noticed that the servos seem to be getting warm when flying. I'm not doing heavy 3D or anything but the weather is pretty warm. Do others notice the servos getting warm?

Also I note these servos are pretty easy to push round when there is no power to them although one of mine is getting difficult to move like this. I am wondering if it needs some lubrication. Apart from this it seems t work fine.

I haven't checked the servos temperature (sometimes 35-40C when I fly and I bet they are warm LOL; tail motor is hot but I can hold it), but out of 3 servos, if turned by hand: front one is very smooth and quiet, rear top one is noisier, rear bottom one is noisy too and a bit notchy beyond certain level of travel in both directions. On the bench, the swash moves smoothly and I don't think the difference between servos affects the flight (230S V2 - close to 8 hours of flight time logged between IU1 and IU2 - mostly IU1). Hope that helps!

Next time I fly I will check it with the temp sensor.

Measured the temp of the servos after several flights in a row in IU1 and IU2 - same as ambient temperature.

Since writing this I have changed the rotor head as the blade grip bearings had become dirty and notchy however even with the new head my servos do get hotter than ambient, although I don't think they should get hot.

Thanks for checking

You are welcome, Allan!

Maybe you fly maneuvers that are more demanding on servos than I do. For me, it is mostly practicing tail first normal and inverted, figure 8-s with a occasional loops, rolls. My heli had a lot of extra grease on the main shaft at the swash plate; so, I wiped it a bit. Other than that, maybe you can try checking what voltage is being sent to servos.

I'm sure your heli is absolutely fine anyway!

Local hobby store suggested lubricating the servo gears with Hitec RCD 58450 Servo Gear Grease. Maybe you can try it too.

What main blades are you using ? I noticed if I run the CF blades the servos get quite warm. Running the plastic blades this doesn't happen.

I think I fly pretty much the same as you. I am nowhere near a full 3D pilot. I fly more the big open big sky maneuvers so I don't see the servos working hard. This said I thin the swrvos have seen quite a few flights so I will pull them this weekend and put an dab of grease in each. Other than that they seem to work perfectly

I am using the stock blades, the only upgrade is the CF tail rotor. This said it has been quite hot around here lately.
