Default Flybarless Unit for Goblin Gasser

Hi, I'm needing a flybarless unit for the Goblin gasser I recently bought. I use a Jeti tx and integration would be nice but not a must. I have 2 Ikon 2's now but am concerned about the software/ firmware issues. But all brands might be having the same issues as well.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill.

If you know the Ikon's stick with them.

They work very well on a gasser.

The Brain/iKon FBL is all I use. I see no reason to lose confidence in MSH, BrainDev and Alex are on top of it and they don't hide it. My opinion, a lot of issues are us when you look at final outcome of the problem.

The HD version is great for a gasser setup.

Thanks guys. I will go with the Ikon.
And yes I agree, some of the problems are self inflicted! Computers and I don't get along too well!

Why the HD version?

HD gives you a better pathway to get the power through to your servos.
Thats the best way to think about that I could think of.

The HD vesion makes it easy to power the heli direct with a 2S LiPo and the on/off switch makes it handy powering on the heli when ready to fly.

Default Mounting tape

I've standardized on the Ikon 2 on all my other (electric) helis but am still running the BD 3SX on my Goblin Gasser. I'm likely going to go to the Ikon 2 HD on that as well for i) the logging, ii) more familiarity with it. iii) potential to use it's governor iv) HD option.

1) What do folks that use this FBL use for mounting tape? Is the 3D 4010 the correct option or do I need to use something else? Sounds like rescue is still problematic but perhaps there's a choice of mounting tape that'll help this. Note that I already use Doug Darby's mount.

2) I'm currently using the Futaba 701 for it's governor but sounds like the Ikon 2 has this covered. Are there comprehensive instructions on how to set that up properly with a gasser?

Thanks in advance.

I use the 3m tape, but have not enabled rescue.

I still use the gy701, I have not tried the latest brain gov updates. The brain gov last summer did not work as well as the GY701. Since mine is on Jeti, the throttle and gov bypass the brain and connect to the Jeti rx.

I like the Futaba gyro pads for mounting Brain/iKon FBL units. I use to use the 3M gray tape, but found the Futaba pads to be much better.

If you're planning to use an Ikon / Brain on a Goblin, the Doug Darby mounting plate is a must, IMHO :

The Brain HD is great for gassers with the nice power bus setup. It flies well, and the governor works well with some tuning. I was never able to get rescue to be reliable with it, it would be great one day and not the next. 3m, Futaba tape, Milton Mod, nothing made it 100%. Milton was close, it was roughly 99%, but then there was the inherent compromise of an essentially soft mounted gyro and it not feeling exactly right in the air. That was all with the Darby plate in my Goblin gas. Eventually I just bailed on Brain and put a Neo in, but the Brain on Futaba tape was pretty great as long as rescue isnít a priority.

We tried something new and I CNCed the lower half of the NEO replacement case right into the Goblin FBL mount. Kyle tested it for me in Virginia and we were saw a 45% reduction in the amplitude of the vibration while in a hover as compared to a NEO with a Lynx case, and we saw a 2.5% reduction in the vibration amplitude for the full flight were he beat the living tar out of it. The nice thing is it is always perfectly straight and you never have to worry about your tape. It appears that with the NEO the mikado tape was only designed to hold it in place as without any tape in this combo mount there was less vibration...
