I may try it in another 130X I have to rule out anything board related but I can’t see how that would make much of a difference if it was working fine with the stock tail servo before.

Also, I did try setting all of the gains to factory default and it was still a no go. Tail was cranking back and forth. I confirmed there are no stripped gears or any issues after I put the stock servo back in between tests. Stock tail servo held like a rock through pitch pumps.

**Tested in another 130X that was working with no issues and same result. Bad tail wag. I guess I’ll grab a new DS76T to test with since the two I used were both included in a parts lot. I couldn’t be sure if they were ever damaged or had issues.

Chris...

Any update on Your DS76T servo issue?

I just finished up the 16th conversion without a hitch

But all My DS76T's were brand new

Check your servo throws. Ask me how I know.

I gave up on it. I could not figure out what was causing the crazy tail wag. I tried 2 different servos and both wagged (both were used and came in a parts lot I had ordered). Also tried changing the tail gains with no effect. I ended up going back to using the stock tail servos.

Ok...I guess I was asking because You indicated above that You were going to try a new servo

I had a similar problem when I switched out tail assemblies in one of my 130Xs.

The tail then wagged like a happy dog and I could not for the life of me figure out why. Pestered everyone here and tried everyone's suggestions, all to no avail. I got so tired of asking and saying "I already tried that twice already but I'll try it again" and "Tried it, but no results. Got any other ideas?" that I stopped asking.

Made sure that there was nothing hindering the tail assembly until it slid like a tiny little rifle bolt. Spent untold princely sums on parts and weeks installing them, balancing assemblies and generally scratching my fool head.

Finally, I realized that the new tail rotor pitch lever was a tad bit longer than the one it replaced. I reduced the throw on the rotary servo to compensate and voila! tail wag was gone, poof! bye bye!

Tail instantly went from wagging like it had some weird neuromuscular helicopter disease to locked in like prison. Why didn't I try this a long time ago?

I laughed so hard that my family thought I had lost my mind.

Chris...

Did You try the second servo hole as I suggested in Post 18?

I will have to give that and the lowering the servo end points a try in the coming days.

In addition...

The added (albeit only slight) weight of the tail servo almost insists on extended length boom supports

The added length will also reduce twisting of the tail boom

The stock servo throw setup is certainly sufficient for anything You can throw at the 130X

Well I must admit I feel quite the fool right now. As I opened my pack of stuff to look again at the servo swap for the 130X I just noticed that both of the servos I tested with are “DS76” and not “DS76T” models. I am thinking this may be the root of my issue. I ordered the correct servo today.

I just went out and threw a few packs through my two favorite 130X’s. Both are pretty much stock other than one has metal gears throughout. Both have Lynx Heat Sinks on the main motors.

When flying both of them backward I do see a bit of laziness in the tail, especially during tail slides. If the DS76T fixes that I will be a happy camper!

Every time I fly the 130X I am always impressed as it’s stability and how well it flies for such a small heli.

Speaking of heat sinks...I just found what may well be the last half dozen on the planet - RKH style

That will make sure the only 130X's I have that do not have heat sinks...have outrunner motors

So has the DS76T servo arrived? Been installed? Working correctly?

Updates?

I have the servo in hand. I am thinking this weekend I will install it. Between work and family the days have been like a time warp lately

Okay success at last! I installed the new DS76T tonight and gave it a test flight in my basement. It worked like a charm. No tail wag and it seemed to be pretty locked in. I had my original tail gain turned down 5 clicks so I set it back to default. Tomorrow I will give it a flight outside to really see how much better the tail upgrade performs.

It should do just fine...

I haven't had any give Me any trouble and haven't touched the gains on any of them - I think My default is -4 clicks

No more twitchy tail servo is the best part about it

No problem...I cannot understand why this wasn’t discovered years ago
