Default VR or Better Monitor

I currently have a laptop running AccuRC on 15" monitor. I'm trying to decide between a 24" FreeSync Monitor ($150ish on Ebay used) or spending more and getting a set of the Samsung Odyssey Plus googles ($260ish on Ebay).

I'm running an i5-7300HQ 2.5gHz, GTX 1060 6B, 8GB ram but could upgrade the ram if I needed to.

I would recommend trying vr before buying anything. Personally i'm not a fan.

I have a 1440p 32" monitor capable of 144hz and thats awesome. Shame my graphics card (gtx 760) wont push more than 60hz at that rez :-(

Better monitor. Old 15" is pretty ridiculous by today's standards.

It is just the standard 1080p laptop display @ 60hz. It is a Dell 7577

My vote goes to a projector. Even if it's not an incredible projector, the size makes all the difference. I got like a powerpoint meeting room type projector with a native resolution that's approximately 3.5 potatoes. It's awesome. If you were thinking about spending VR money...a projector is a pretty sweet alternative. I just cast mine on a white or off-white wall but you could get a screen.

Having a flying area that fills your visual reference is what you're looking for and the projector gives you that PLUS it's not awkward to stand up and sim...the more natural way to practice because that's how you fly, too.

So I found some open box Odyssey Pluses on Ebay for $220 shipped so i thought I would give VR a try. If I don't like it or my machine won't pull it I'll just sell them as barley used and hopefully recoup most of my investment. I also overclocked my GPU and gained around 20FPS on AccuRC from doing that.

What kind of FPS were you running before you swapped to VR?
