This is clearly an ABC wind with 8 salient poles. I will try shifting for the 4th harmonic between the two SL machines. Maybe ABCx4 to go with it. The machine suffers no rotor losses so the slot, winding, and frictional losses are to be mitigated.

Other Ideas?

So we see this unipolar coil arrangement for each phase .The corresponding SR drive topology has 6 motor outputs. The main advantage of this converter is its ability for independent control of each phase.

The original; wind was 144 turns. The copper including end turns was approx.1.656 kg. The stator is 2.381 kg.The stator ar is 140mm x 45mm

@ChX2
You see open slots with only a notch detail for slot wedges. I know you like big iron or none at all. Maybe the 140 diameter motor will win the speeders Schneider cup.

Default Recount!!

182 turns so 364 strands of 23 ga wire in the slot. 93.912 mm^2. The slot area is 196 mm^2. Fill was approx 48% I think I will wind for around 50 turns of 17Ga. I have the dedicated controller but would like to build a sensorless one. This one uses an optical encoder and gray code for accurate positioning.

Ive set up the propeller chip to drive a sinusoidal microstep. Id like to see what the harmonics look like on the scope. The chip is a LM339.

After talking with my colleague a SRM specialist Dr. Konstantin Kanelis. He has directed me how to accurately capture the parameters for the model of the SRM machine. I need a jig that will let me turn the motor to a predetermined mechanical angle and lock it there. Then you run current with an isolated transformer and record the current at the predetermined angle. From this you can build the necessary parabolic function based on mechanical angle and current. To make implementing the model and driving this machine easier I have gathered all the necessary pieces to build a RPC for a kitchen lab. The RPC allows us to run an industrial 3 phase VFD and other 3 phase components from a 110 wall socket. The Industrial VFD has many more features and adjustments than our hobby drives. With it I can drive all types of machines and implement all kinds of commutation schemes DTC, CFC, V/HZ, etc. This is a valuable bench device in the right hands. Its very similar to a leonard ward setup! The IM shown is nice with 24 slots open cage and its aluminum so it is light. If the pole count agrees Ill implement the phase shifted Y-D wind on this machine. A cleaner sine would do wonders here as it would be supplying my 3 phase devices. If you've ever priced 3 phase power into your home you will appreciate this for sure.

Im leaving you all a schematic. Lets see who does anything with my blathering. Practice recycling and you don't pay much for the complimentary components or even the pony motor!

I wonder should I run the snake oil in it?

Somewhere along my travels in the hood I learned something..... a lesson that might be taught on field weakening and why a surface mounted PM machine has speed limitations.

Above base speed, the applied voltage is the maximum and the back-EMF exceeds the
applied voltage. Consequently the back-EMF has to be reduced to produce torque in
the constant power region. In a SPM machine stator current has to be used for this and this typically makes a SPM machine not the ideal candidate for flux weakening. Maybe a bright light from raytheon can spin off this. Even though they specialize in defense and electrical warfare not rotating electrical machines.

https://www.semanticscholar.org/pape...7e6d049e7bb8c9

This is where Benz is headed with e mobility. Big wheel$ rule. 24's on front and 26's on the back. I guess Benz is down with the hood . What does Raytheon know about the starter in this.......

The I'll show you the hood conceived fixture that is needed to take static measurements to build the commutative parabolic function for Kostas feed forward SRM commutation model for this particular SRM. The fixture will have to be stout! Even for the smaller machines like you run in a rc heli. My 4638 stall torque at Preece is quite enuf to snap something. An arm would be pie!!! Keep sticking ya gloved hands down there if you want to. If its get caught up somehow its over.

Broke and needs > 100 turns running of the line. That's a lot of orthocylic wrapping ahead.

Forum excel applets are great for general approximations but engineers and machinist don't work of approximations they work off the NUMBER! and you gotta know what the number is. Create an excel winding applet that uses these real formulas we actually use.So you really know what that number is. It requires mathematics, and measuring devices ,radius gauges, precision dowels, calipers, gap gauges, etc.....please enjoy the realness of slot area calculation. The other way in cad is to create the I-mate part to the stator and check its area, which would resemble an intelligent stator cage. That would be the way to design that and ensure bars with100% fill

Holla back....

SRM Dr. K.K. suggest reverse engineering the drive which was designed for a washing machine which to us runs a relatively relatively high voltage and low amperage so while it will drive a motor with lower turns count its wimpy fet wont handle what we do amp wise. The IC has no identifiers so re work is a task. You see I have the rotary phase convertors. One is already built for 20 hp 240v 3 phase support of a single 240 line .
The motor is a 20 hp Blador The other will support 10 hp which is plenty of overhead for a 5hp industrial VFD. Having that on my bench will allow testing of many concept motors like ISCAD, IM, SRMs , Synchronous SRM's, PMDC, PMACS and quite possibly the flux switching machine I designed. But we can definitely drive this SRM with the fully programmable VFD.

I want to redirect this thread a little to open it for sharing alternative energy projects or just repurposed motors salvaged from devices on the way to the dump. It makes not a lot of sense for us to pay upward of 400.00 for hobby machines and then watch motors like this thrown away in the trash. Some people that salvage have figured out that they can post the motors online and get more than the 15 cent a pound they get for the motor at the yard. They are selling them so cheap I cannot resist. You can build a very large coaxial or chopper, perhaps a scale speed plane or another various in wheel or renewable energy project.

Lets show we can do something useful with this. Its going in the trash at a phenomenal rate. That's crazy in an ever becoming electrified world. Were all Kings when we recycle. This also means that possibly you could rewind your appliance for better efficiency and cost savings. Don't just throw it away and buy new. We cannot sustain over the long haul like that.

The electro clutch is merely a 120 volt 60 hz magnetic coil and spring arrangement. It could be useful in many projects.
