Default What are you working on today?

I thought it would be fun to see what everyone is working on.
I had pictures in mind, but anything RC heli related is fair game if you feel like sharing it. Don't worry about derailing this thread, discussions are welcome.

I'll start it. I'm finally about ready to start working on my Oxy5 build and the first thing I find in the manual is that my loctite is all outdated. The 243 has apparently superseded the 242, and the 648 is apparently the green of choice now according to the OXY manual. Of course I'm well stocked on all the outdated stuff and have none of the new.

You'll love the Oxy 5 build. I am finishing up mine also. Just did the wiring couple days ago. As good as airborne.

I wouldn't worry to much about the threadlocker. Good to go with what you have imo.

Have fun!

I wonder if there is any true heli addict who does not have at least one little bottle with a pink top(R48) in some dark corner of their workshop, gathering dust

Doing Winter maintenance of my x5

Checked bearings and replace tail gears (edge where getting too sharp)
Now (waiting) on new trust bearings and dampeners for the head. Head was a bit loose. Then it should be good to go.

242 and 243 difference is that 243 is a bit more resistant to oil. On a new build which basically on clean screw's it's fine if you degrease before it should not really matter.

658 is a different kind of adhesive is made for contact surface locking so cilindrical contact surfaces for example . So it's ideal to ensure bearings don't slip the housings or axl's slip in the bearing and eat into the axls.

I'm sure you are correct on the thread lock, but one of the things I am trying to do with this build is to try new things. That's why I'm trying the OXY, the Brain2, HobbyWing ESC, XNOVA motor, and KST servos. Now I'll add newer thread locks to the list.

I'm also adding a DX9 to the mix to dabble in telemetry.

Glad your OXY5 build went well. Have a blast with it!

Just remember. There are many, many thousands and thousands of components being held in place this morning all over the country and beyond with the very same threadlocker you have laying there.

Thanks, that's exactly what I read as well. I have both on order so I will be trying them shortly.

I agree completely and I have not traditionally had a problem with screws coming loose so I am not doubting the existing products. I'm just trying new stuff.

I'm trying to get motivated to start this kraken built that has been sitting here ready to go for a couple of months...

But every time I crash on the sim I think, "Man I suck" and "what if that was the kraken" and I say maybe next week...LOL

The Helifreak court hereby orders you to return the new stuff and use what you previously had on hand.

My two small helis are halfway re-built, waiting for new FBL units. My two big helis are actually ready for re-maiden after I did some maintenance on them. But I have to swap the FBL also on them. I am doing a full FBL swap. Weather is crap but it helps in pushing me to sim more and not worry if the IRS refund is still 21 days away to buy the new FBL units.

I'm going to finish adding and setting up safety gear to my Oxy 4 Max.

- Yesterday I added a smoothing 470 microfarad capacitor to my FBL unit just in case. The port that it's plugged in to is being used for something else too, so I needed to use a Y-splitter. It's not the best I know to have the capacitor separated from the FBL unit by extra wire or connections, but whattayagonnado.

- Today I'll finish the setup and testing of my lost-model alarm from ALoft Hobbies. This thing can send an annoying sound at the flip of a switch (rather than inactivity or low battery, although it can also do both of those). What's cool is that since it operates using a channel, you can set your failsafe to activate the alarm. That way if something goes really awry people will be warned is it comes screaming in toward them. // I was going to complete the setup for it last night but the damn this is too loud for the sleeping kids and the gaming wife.

Nice, nice, nice - nothing better than some old school aeromodelling. Warms the heart and stirs up the memories I am thinking of embarking on a FW190A shortly.

Working on a better looking strut design. Probably useless overall but I posted this last night.
