Default Motor Temps

What temps should these motors typically come down at? I'm not having issues I just wonder what I should be looking for. I just now got a guage so I haven't had a chance to check yet. I have a 3220HS in a Protos 380Evo and a 4530HS that I'm fixing to install in a T-Rex 700X. I'm running Scorpion ESCs so the timing is not adjustable.

... hard to see any universal answer. as usual it "depends on".... mechanical setup/gearing, esc setup(timing/gov), flying style, weather conditions, etc etc etc just to name some.

one answer could be given in this video: Kan poonoi - Egodrift 4530HS 510... given the flying style and Thailand (at least seems to be) having hot weather for sure... this could be some "max. temp to be expected" scenario.

during last 4 months / winter season i have not seen one of mine above 50C... max. outside temp was 17C... mostly 4-8C. winter flying... more decent - fingers missing sensitivity.

the "truth" will be somewhere in between i guess....

Ciao
Michael

I go by the 'too hot to touch' method. If you cant touch for more than a few seconds, probably something wrong.

You will be surprised but that's actually about 60 celsius
If you can't touch it at all, thats too hot

I checked my Protos today and it was around 45deg C after the flight.

Thats a completely inaccurate method.. The only way to really tell how hot the motor is, is with a temperature gun.. some motors will run hotter than others, but perfectly normal.. some maximum temperatures for normal running conditions are 250F or better..
Also theres many factors that can affect the temperature of the motor, like gearing, timing, and airflow around the motor.
Sure we all want cool running motors, but to say somethings wrong with the motor that runs hot with no other data, is not correct.

What Tony said-
I run the Align 850MX and it's usually hot to the touch,no matter what head-speed i run.
There are times i will fly smooth, simple circuits, sport and it will come down slightly cooler.I guess that's the way the motor is,by the way,i own two Trex 700's with the same motor and same results...
When Kenny Ko flew for Align and he flew the 700X with the 850MX motor,Kenny came out with the motor cooler which you place on top of the motor,i don't know if the 850MX had anything to do with his decision to make the motor cooler, but than again i wouldn't doubt it.If Kan Ponnoi were to fly the 850MX,i'm sure you could fry an egg on it after the flight..Lol
I plan to get the Egodrift soon,so that i can see what all the rave is about on this motor.
Sorry if i derailed this topic to another motor brand, but i also disagree with -Dwoof.
