Oxy 5 MEG or Kraken 580?
Need help deciding on which Heli to own next?
Have been flying mostly 3D biplanes and warbirds for the last 6 years or so but originally learned to fly Helis. Haven’t been following the Heli scene too closely so a little input here would be greatly appreciated! I know the little Kraken isn’t out yet but will be shortly. I’m thinking it would be similar to the large one? How do both brands build? Quality? Flight performance? Issues? Parts availability? Thanks for any input... Jay. |

I dont have my kraken 580 yet but I do have a kraken 700 and oxy 5. If repair costs are at all a concern then oxy 5 wins hands down.
Otherwise they are both capable well designed machines. |

They actually have a lot in common.
SAB Design by Italians living in Italy Built in Vietnam OXY Designed by an Italian who lives in Vietnam-directly oversees his own factory. Built in Vietnam Crash costs will be won by the OXY. SAB is more typically more costly. SAB also tends to be a little heavier. |

I have the Meg and the Kraken 700
Oxy5 Meg - imo better quality Lighter airframe Takes up to 625 mains along with 105 tail Kraken 580 Looks great Limited to 600 mains and 105 tail (603 if tail is 95) sealed gear box (for some is a plus for some is a minus) Can't go wrong with any. SAB, if youre listening, please do a 3 blade head/tail with a 620-630mm stretch option on this thing. Boy would that thing smack.
I have the Oxy5 Meg on 12S and 610/105 blade setup and its the best machine ive ever flown. Its basically a simulator.....whatever you tell it to do it does and with ease. Its also a relatively light airframe so it feels very capable and nimble even in the lower RPMs. The SAB is traditionally a bit heavier and will have more disc load which is not a bad thing.....in fact i prefer it, but its a machine that flies happier in the mid-to-high rpms. Its overbuilt like a tank and is designed for maximum abuse. You cant go wrong with either.

+1 On the Meg with 12s and 610mm main and 105 tail... the thing rocks
and + 1 for the 620-630mm stretch option . i will not get the 580 only because of this limitation... i want to use 610 - 620 mains with the 12s setup.... |

Did a quick cost comparison for fun of some key parts. Oxy 5 meg vs kraken 580. Pretty close..didn't add the kraken side frame thingies. $22 a piece. I think they are both cool, but neither one is inexpensive.
So I say go with your gut or get both and see which one speaks to you. Once that new heli vibe wears off and some flight time starts accumulating on it, you start to see a airframes true worth in durability, ease of maintenance and premature wear. Oxy 5 MEG------Goblin 580--- Main shaft $23 ------$18--- Boom MEG $58 (painted) -------$88--- Tail grip each $20 -------$18--- Tail hub $9 ------Goblin has hub on shaft Tail pitch slider $19 -----$22--- Landing struts $8 ------$14--- Main gear $26 ------$39(metal)--- Spindle $13------$10--- Tail shaft $6 ------ $15(with hub)--- Canopy $92 -------$98--- Carbon Frame each $37 -------$22--- Head block MEG $49-----$39--- Swashplate $57------$54--- Main blade grip $25 ------$24--- Blade grip arms $26 --------$21--- Meg tail belt $18 ------$27--- Radius arm $12-------$6--- TOTAL OF PART PRICES: Oxy MEG $498 Goblin 580 $524 (list is not comprehensive or exhaustive) Last edited by RappyTappy; 06-19-2020 at 03:26 PM.. I thought we were discussing the Kraken 580, not the old 570?
Here in the UK, the 580 will retail at £700. That's more than the BT 650 was retail. the 580 is expensive for it's class I think. MB

Yep, I was thinking the price listed at the bottom was kit prices, but I see it is a total for all the parts listed. But I also think the kit price should be considered.

So granted the boom prices might have been off but the overall demonstration that there is not a huge difference in parts cost is the same.
Face it neither of these two are on the cheap side but are basically the latest and greatest so either way you should be happy.
