Default 4530 XNova motor bearings

What are the symptoms of a bad motor bearing? I bought this motor used from a flying buddy.
My XNova motor seems rough to turn by hand after a flight, but after it cools off it becomes easy to turn again.
The motor is on a Protos 700,i also noticed a loss in power today and the motor was hotter than usual too after i landed. It spools up fine, but i can hear a squeaky sound as it spools up.I assume that if it's a loose magnet,it wouldn't turn easily by hand at all no matter if it's before a flight or after a flight when its warm to hot depending on my flight.

Well, took the XNova motor apart and the motor bearings from what i can feel are butter smooth.I took out the motor shaft cause it now has a burnt groove on it due to a bad bearing on the bearing block of the Protos frame,I replaced that bad bearing in the bearing block.I also ordered a new motor shaft (which should arrive tomorrow).I tried to run the motor without main blades with that groove on the shaft, but after running it the motor got hot and the motor had resistance while turning by hand,i guess it's due to the groove on the motor shaft not running true and moving around in the bearing block.I hope the new motor shaft will be better.
Will running the motor without main blades on the ground make the motor hot? or does the motor run cooler while the main blades are on and doing an actual flight?
I ran the motor at 1000 headspeed without the main blades just for testing purposes on the ground after installing the new bearing in the bearing block of the Protos 700 to see if it got better, same results...

Motors will heat up even on the bench after a few seconds but you have to define what "hot" is with actual IR temp gun. Just because it feels hot to your hand is meaningless. It will always feel that way

That grove you have is a common issue from the shaft slipping in the inner race of the bearing and then slowly grinding away. The bearing can still be perfectly fine and have the same result. This is where lower grade bearings can bite you as they may not have the same tolerances and fitment as a higher grade bearing will.

A tiny amount of bearing retainer on the inner race will prevent that from happening again, but dont go crazy with it or getting it back out again will be trouble. Typically just a little heat first if anything will be needed to slip it out at most if done properly

Thanks Xrayted, i never thought to put any retainer in between the shaft and inner race.
I'll do that when my new shaft comes in today.
Thanks again!

I had the same thing also happen to a shaft from the lower bearing in the motor itself. Started having having vibes in my logs going up over time and then noticed that the bottom of the can was actually touching the motor base in certain places when spinning because there was now enough lateral play that the can could rock ever so slightly on the shaft. The groove was so clean it looked like the shaft had been machined with the groove in it

Well, changed out the motor shaft on the Xnova 4530 today since the motor shaft arrived in the mail today.
Spun her up on the ground without main blades in my back yard for 2-3 minutes and checked for temp and roughness of turning the motor after spool up (was hard to turn after a spool up with the old motor shaft) and it passed on both categories.
Damn,i could swear the motor temp as compared earlier with the old grooved shaft is now much cooler!!!!
and turning the motor after a 2-3 minutes spool up was still butter smooth as compared to the old motor shaft feeling rough and hard to turn by hand!!
I cant wait to fly her again, too bad the weather forecast for tomorrow is suppose to be very windy in the San Francisco Ca bay area...
Thanks to Xrayted and Tonysheli for all your golden info!
