Sorry... i have corrected my post to be more clear. i was only talking about 20cm "normal" antenna (normal in the meaning of: thin antenna, without the balun). the Rex3 is still available as Rex 3, Rex 3 A20 and Rex 3 A40... but the A20/A40 version only with, not without the thick thingy. the information was coming from Hacker/Jeti hotline... Jeti distributor Germany. no idea if the same is valid for America or Australia, etc

Ciao

No problems, although it did get my heart beating.

I don't mind the ones with the balun, I just put a little 3M tape on the frame and stick the balun to it, with the yellow active part sticking out away from the frame. Yes the ones without balun are a little easier as you can use a tube of heatshrink shrunk down and stick that to the frame, which lets you get the active part further away from the frame.

... i've taken a Mikado antenna holder i had left over, cut the main piece into half, glued it to the frame and the shrinked part next to the balun of the antenna fits perfectly where the tube normally would fit. a piece of heatshrink to fix it and it's good.

There are soda straws that should fit over the baluns and maybe zip to the guide posts of the antenna spreaders. A small expandable braided type cable cover might work as well. A custom kludge seems reasonable from here in REX7land (USA).

Ok now, what am I missing? A US version of the REX3?! I didn’t think you could get a REX3 in the USA. (If so, I’ll be making an order to esprit today.)

And what do the Balums do for you? (Aside from get in the way?) normally they use a Balum to match the transmission line impedance, but I’ve never seen them used on a RC RX like this.

@JimJW i didnt even think about the fact that they have a US sticker....which indicates they are not allowed to be sold to US consumers

Yes It is real though as my pictures show but funny nonetheless. So i have a colleague which goes to the US ever so often. I ordered from espritmodel and part of order was rex3 with other items. The address i gave was US address so my coleague would bring it with when he returned.

I thought all was well seeing as i had ordered before but shipping address previously was to my country. They just refunded me the portion and notified me that rex3 will not ship to US address. I tried explaining but they they said they cannot ship it to US address no matter what.

Baluns are better in my extremely limited understanding but for my applications would irritate me.

If someone has removed heatshrink please share picture of balun version i would love to know if the exposed coax tip length still matches non balun version length as they should match 2.4 standard in my mind.

That’s what threw me off, here’s a REX3-US labeled box... wouldn’t you think it would be intended for the US market?

Just wishful thinking

If there is anyone in the future that ends up looking for how the different RXs compare, hopefully this will help. I'm in the US so receivers are limited to what is available... (I wish I had a EX R3 REX and a EX R7 Nano to show)

So on hand I have:
1) R3/RSW
2) EX R5 light (Bundled with my DS-12)
3) EX R4 light (2)

I'm still working on putting things in, so no 'real world' type of review here but I wanted to try to summarize the differences between the receivers. If I get it wrong I'm sure another Freak will set me straight.

Thoughts:
 • They are all about the same size / weight
 • The R4 and R5 lights have shorter antenna
 • The R3/RSW has longer antenna
 • The EX Bus port on the R5 is at the opposite end, next to the antenna
 • R3/RSW has a 'Hardcase', others are shrink wrapped
 • Range should be reasonably similar provided antenna are in the clear (harder with short antenna )
 • All will work with Jeti EX Bus and in my case integrate with an IKON2 FBL
 • The R4 should integrate and provide full IKON2 telemetry even though Jeti states that it has limited telemetry. The telemetry that Jeti is referring to in that statement is the A1 / A2, the individual antenna info from the RX. Q the overall signal strength is still there and IKON telemetry and integration work.

Hope this helps

I'm coming from Spektrum so for comparison, here's a shot with the new SPM4651T and a Lemon Satellite.
Just adding the R7 nano and a REX3 image to the comparison:

The R7 is a really small Rx suitable for a back yard flyer like an Oxy2 or OMP. Note how short the antenna is. (Has anyone ever extended one with a coaxial antenna used for the other receivers)

The REX3 is identical in size to the R3/RSW but has more EX ports for additional telemetry sensors.

The REX3 is available with 3 or 4 antenna options. The first is with 100mm the second is with 200mm (-A20) and 400mm (-A40) I have seen the 200mm antenna offered with and without the Balums (the bulges). The 100mm don’t have Balums and all the 400mm have Balums. As far as I can tell any REX 3 that end in A20/A40 have the Balums. Without the extension you might be getting a 100 or 200mm without the Balums. (Correct me if I’m wrong)

I’d like to make a plea to for the REX 3 to be certified in the US!
