Default VBC Touch: How to charge at the field?

I am wondering how folks are charging the VBC Touch radio at the field? What are the options?

I just use a coaxial connector with a set of banana plugs on the end and charge off a 12v output from my charging case.

I cant remember polarity. Prolly center positive.

I am trying to visualize this in my head. By coaxial you mean the type of connector that plugs to the back of a TV, and by banana plug you mean the 4mm connectors that plug onto the LiPo chargers and/or many power supplies. What do you connect to what?

I have a case for my radio, and in it I have my charger, that I can plug into my generator.

I don't know the sizing of those coaxial connectors. I measured the stock power connector and it looks like 5.5mm OD, 2.5mm ID, and 14mm long.

Are people charging their radio at the field often? Once I charge my VBC (non-touch), the charge lasts weeks/months depending on how much I fly. I'd estimate easily 75+ flights.

I use the non-touch and can charge at the field (have generator), but prefer to only charge at home.

I probably do about 30 flights on a charge (1 pack in my TX) but I only let it get down to about 40% before I charge it again. I'm just paranoid and would rather not go out to the field for 4+ hrs at 40% and have it get too low for comfort. That said, they say even when the TX tells you it's at 0% you have about 30-60 min of flight time left.

For me, I only charge it about every other week during the flying season.

I don't a gasoline generator. My field also does not allow gasoline generators either.

I have a car with a "wall outlet", but I hate to have the car idling just to charge my VBC touch radio.

I believe folks are rigging adapters to charge the VBC Touch radio with a 3S or 4S LiPo. I am interested in learning more about this.

I figured folks charge LiPos at the field, so they must have figured out a way to charge the VBC Touch radio at the field also.

Considering I donít own the touch! Am I wrong thinking when my V-control is plugged into USB to update its also charging? Y/N

If so, why would you not be able to charge the same as your phone from the car using USB charger?

I wonder if a cheep low wattage inverter would play well with a 3 cell lipo? If so you would be able to use the wall charger. Are use that same inverter from car battery.

Just throwing it out there.

Yes the VBC and VBCt charges from the USB but very slowly, so it is not really a viable option for field charging.

Any 12V DC source will work to charge the VBC or VBCt via the barrel connector. Positive is the centre pin.

Here are the names of the plug required

IEC 60130-10 (:1971) defines five/seven connectors

Type A: 5.5 mm outer diameter, 2.1 mm inner diameter
Type A: 5.5 mm outer diameter, 2.5 mm inner diameter
Type B: 6.0 mm outer diameter, 2.1 mm inner diameter
Type B: 6.0 mm outer diameter, 2.5 mm inner diameter
Type C: 3.8 mm outer diameter, 1.4 mm inner diameter
Type D: 6.3 mm outer diameter, 3.1 mm inner diameter
Type E: 3.4 mm outer diameter, 1.3 mm inner diameter

Get another VControl to use as a spare when the first battery dies?

well i am looking at the option of using the ISDT Battery Checker BG-8S with a usb to m-barel power cable (mikado plug). The BG-8s can take a li-po (2-8s) as source and provide up to 12v 2A output on usb... this is on paper, i will find out soon.
