Default Anyone using a Kolibri 140 HV-I ?

So I'm thinking about putting a Kolibri 140 HV-I on my Diabolo 700 UL.

It looks like the peak amp rating is 240A.

I think that will be perfect on my Diabolo where I average about 80-120A and peaks of 150-160.

I'd just like to get some feedback from those that have used them for a while.

What heli(s) are you using it on and what are your impressions?

Are they as robust and reliable as the Jive & Kosmik ESC's?

Any input greatly appreciated.

nice! where did you get that info? I wonder if that's the same for the 140LV, I have one and absolutely love it so much I got a second one! Mine has never showed spikes beyond 199.9A though, I wonder if that's a coincidence and it happens to be my batteries limit (don't think so), or if the unit doesn't go beyond that... Firmware update 2.0 has been released and they touch on dynamic current and peak current parameters, I'm trying to get more info as well...

I’m using one on a Logo 700 XXtreme with 4525-520
It handles peak around 200amps without any problems.

I interpreted that wrong from Spencerkey. It was the Jive 120 that Kontronik said 240A peak.

Dave, if I were you, I would email Kontronik (through their website) and describe your application, describe your history and incident with previous ESC, and tell them you're deciding between the Jive Pro 120 and the Kolibri 140 HV-I, I think if you want peace of mind nothing like asking the manufacturer directly.

My personal opinion (take this with a grain of salt, no factual evidence to back it up) is that the Kolibri is a more modern unit with higher processing power (for governor), this is for sure. I would find it hard to imagine that Kontronik would release a newer unit that performs inferior to its predecessor, although this has happened to some extent when they released the Jive Pro vs the previous Jive...

So, to be sure, ask the people who designed and manufactured it!

My thoughts exactly.
Their website is currently down, but I'm sure it will be back up tonight.

I'll just use email for now.

I put a Kolibri 140HV in one of my Diabolo BE 700, so far very good.

I like the fact that telemetry circuitry and the fan are included.

If I remember correctly, the default max. Amp is 210A. I seen it when I program my ESC using bluetooth.

Also, just looking at the downloads section of Kontronik's website, I found this:

" Important Update KOLIBRI 90/140 HV-I Software Version 1.2

In version 1.2 a parameter for peak current control was integrated to improve the performance of the controller."

Chris & Flipper, that's good to know.

Chris, is there a separate bluetooth module (or anything extra) needed for the Kolibri programming, or is it built in to the ESC?

I'm assuming no issues using iOS/app/iPhone as well?

There are three options for programming the KOLIBRI ESCs.

1) Stick programming
2) ProgUNIT
3) Bluetooth module

Stick programming can do everything you need to get you in the air. It's simple and works well. There are some minor things it doesn't do that may impact head speed via telemetry, etc.

The ProgUnit works well and allows you to adjust every configuration option in the ESC using the K-KONFIG software. It's also required for firmware updates. I'd consider it a must have.

I haven't used the Bluetooth module yet, but the apps are available for download for Android/IOS so you can take a look at them. I don't believe it supports firmware updates.

If you take a look at the manual it covers the stick programming.

Good luck on getting the BT module to work with iOS, mine is an expensive paperweight.

USB ProgUnit is the best connection for all Kontronik ESCs.

same here, except I found it too light for paper weight, so I basically just “forgot” about it, it’s somewhere inside my XXtreme frame, still attached to the K200. I was never able to use it successfully anyways...

PROG Unit is a must have imo as well. It might be expensive first time you purchase it, but also helps as extra incentive to purchase all future ESCs from KONTRONIK!!!

he's talking about ProgUNIT, not ProgCARD.

ProgCARD and ProgDISC have been discontinued for quite some time and have been replaced with the ProgUNIT.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I guess the ESC is not the only investment.

I have the 140HV in my synergy 696 running 716's and pyro 750
I really like everything about it. the fan, the telemetry, gov store is pretty much the same rpms each flight regardless what pack.
bec and esc temps as well as amps is great as you can see how many amps the servos use. Futaba 18sz.
I run the new buffer cap setup from Aero panda with it just because.

I also found when fine tuning my FBL unit I lowered the amp draw of the servos. would never even thought about it before.

Thanks Steve.

I now have one mounted on my Diabolo 700UL and a ProgUNIT in the package waiting to be opened

It's going to be a couple weeks until I get to actually try it out in flight though.

My next steps (if I have them correct) are:

1) Download the ProgUNIT application and ProgUNIT firmware update

2) Update ProgUNIT firmware

3) Connect the Kolibri to the ProgUNIT and update the Kolibri firmware

4) Go through the Kolibri settings using the ProgUNIT and make sure it's set for V-Control telemetry

5) Set BEC voltage to 6v

6) Do fresh model setup on NEO/V-Control, selecting Kontronik Kolibri as the ESC (if that's a selection choice on the original V-Control)

If that's not the correct order (or I missed something), someone please let me know. I plan to program it sometime this week.

Thanks!
