Default Jeti Receivers For FBL

I'm in the middle of converting my fleet to Jeti. So I'm new, not too familiar with Jeti and I have a bunch of receivers to install!

If there is anyone in the future that ends up looking for how the different RXs compare, hopefully this will help. I'm in the US so receivers are limited to what is available... (I wish I had a EX R3 REX and a EX R7 Nano to show)

So on hand I have:
1) R3/RSW
2) EX R5 light (Bundled with my DS-12)
3) EX R4 light (2)

I'm still working on putting things in, so no 'real world' type of review here but I wanted to try to summarize the differences between the receivers. If I get it wrong I'm sure another Freak will set me straight.

Thoughts:
  • They are all about the same size / weight
  • The R4 and R5 lights have shorter antenna
  • The R3/RSW has longer antenna
  • The EX Bus port on the R5 is at the opposite end, next to the antenna
  • R3/RSW has a 'Hardcase', others are shrink wrapped
  • Range should be reasonably similar provided antenna are in the clear (harder with short antenna )
  • All will work with Jeti EX Bus and in my case integrate with an IKON2 FBL
  • The R4 should integrate and provide full IKON2 telemetry even though Jeti states that it has limited telemetry. The telemetry that Jeti is referring to in that statement is the A1 / A2, the individual antenna info from the RX. Q the overall signal strength is still there and IKON telemetry and integration work.

Hope this helps

I'm coming from Spektrum so for comparison, here's a shot with the new SPM4651T and a Lemon Satellite.

..maybe you should not only compare size/weight to i.e. 4651T, but functionality too... ? quality / range? there is much more of a difference between them....

This is simply a showcase of the receiver sizes and not a Spektrum comparison

Not trying to bash Spektrum... 😉

Stuff like weight is pretty easy to get. It’s not a fair comparison. With Spektrum, the RX might be lighter but you gotta have 2 or more for anything but the smallest helis, mount them and so on... The Jeti might weigh more but you only have one RX usually.

Maybe if I get bored, I’ll strap my old RXs side by side with the Jetis and do a range check or something.

I’m wondering if anyone else has other RXs to add to this thread?

The most popular seem to be:

REX3
REX7
R3

And then the lightweight ones like the R5L and R4L

If you can't bind your R4, be advised that some labels were installed on their opposite sides.

That’s kinda why I put the pictures of the RXs I had. For visual comparison.

— REX7: 42mm x 28mm x 11mm / 13 gm (12,963 mm^3)
— REX3: 40mm x 22mm x 7mm / 6 gm (6,160 mm^3)

The REX7 is about 2x as big and more than 2x as heavy. I don’t really need a REX so no big deal for now... 🙂

Being outside the USA I only use the RSat2 and REX3 with all of my helis. Well the one exception is the new Spirit RS with its inbuilt Jeti Rx.

Aren' there different iterations of the REX3, with 100mm, 200mm, and balun antennas? One has to get the version that works for their applications. Short antennas may be harder to get clear of carbon.

I think the R3 has a good antenna length. You have to be careful with the REX3 because they have different lengths. 200mm is just way too long.

yes, there are 2 (3) versions... Rex3 and Rex3 A20 (plus Rex3 A40). the 20/40cm comes with the damper pots (dont know if this is the correct techn. term in English). i am using the 20cm antennas i.e. on the HeliBaby NT of my wife... no chance with the short antennas there. or on the Diabolo 700... canopy is long and very slim and half around tail boom all the 'normal' helis are perfect with the std. antennas... and there is no difference in range or other specs.

Ciao
Michael

Hi the versions of the REX3 that I have physically seen are

REX3 - 10cm antennae without balun
REX3 - 20cm antennae without balun
REX3 A20 - 20cm antennae with balun
REX3 A40 - 10cm antennae with balun

I own the first 2 without balun's and ordered them from different vendors as a REX3 as I was not aware what the antennae lengths were. The first one to arrive was the REX3 - 20cm without balun.

The next time I ordered from a different vendor I received the REX3 - 10cm without balun. Their is no difference between the receivers that distinguishes them. The only difference I could find was the white sticker on the front showed JDEX-RR3 and JDEX-RR3-US. The US version was ordered from www.espritmodel.com and the normal one from a local shop in our country. The US version has 20cm antennae.

I would now always contact the seller first and ask them to measure the antennae and buy the one I want for the specific heli and the mounting.

Personally the baluns cause problems for me and using antennae tubes so I always buy the ones without baluns.

And Esprit will only sell their REX3's out of the USA due to lack of FCC sticker. Dan

... here in Europe no more 20cm normal (= NO balun/damper pot) antenna on Rex3... not available anymore. i called Jeti support as i really would have needed it for the HeliBaby NT (there's a 2mm hole on the CF backplate where the antenna must go through). the little less range is just not important on the heli, but no chance

I found they were only carrying the short antenna model out here in Australia, but they told me they could order the A20 version of the REX3. So Jeti in CZ has told you they are no longer making the A20 version? That will be an issue for me as for the majority of my setups I need the 200mm version, the 100mm doesn't really let me get the antenna away from the carbon on my larger models.

Can someone consolidate an updated list of the antenna variants of the REX3?
