Default Spektrum Avian vs Hobbywing

Kicking around the idea of going all in. LIPO > ESC > FBL > Sat. I'm currently sitting at NX6 > Generic Lipo > Hobbywing V3> IKON2 > SPM4651T. I don't have any issues using the IKON2 gov but I need to upgrade to a Hobbywing V4 anyway to get telemetry. I just figured out how to program the IKON2 from the NX6.

What benefit does the Avian ESC provide that the Hobbywing doesn't? I am already invested in the Hobbywing WIFI and program box. Does the Smart Lipo tell the Avian anything special other than cell count? Is there any benefit to using a smart lipo with the avian outside of the self discharge?

The only real advantage that I’m aware of is that the Batteries can report the per cell voltage.

Disadvantages are there too. You’re stuck with the ESC governor if you want telemetry. Plug the ESC into the regular Throttle port (use it like a regular ESC that is) and you loose the telemetry. You’ll need a new programming box; they look similar but are not interchangeable.

Make sure you really understand the difference between the two. Not all Hobbywing ESCs support Amps telemetry. (60A and below don’t) I’m not sure which Avians do.

Yes, I like the IKON2 too much to sacrifice a governor. Just got the Hobbywing 120 V4 talking to the NX6 (HW > IKON2 > SPM4651T > NX6) and I think this should be enough.
