Default Convert 5 to Meg without Kit?

The Oxy 5 can be upgraded to the Meg with the retrofit kit. Why does the retrofit kit come with a center hub? Can I upgrade the Oxy 5 to a Meg with only the tail boom, belt, pushrod and turnbuckes? It would save some $$.

It comes with the center hub because the older non-Meg kits came with the shorter center hub. They found out the 5 flew better with the taller hub when coming up with the Meg. Not only did it fly better in the Meg configuration but also the standard version as well. So the shorter hub was phased out.

The Meg had the taller hub, so the stretch kit had:
New taller center hub
Hard Dampers
Longer turnbuckles (to go with the longer head)
Longer tail
Longer tail pushrod
Longer tail belt

The Meg also had a motor counter bearing and a “Meg” sticker...

If you have the taller head already or don’t want the taller head then all you need is the boom, tail pushrod and belt. And the “Meg” sticker 😉

The taller hub came shortly after the Meg kit was initially introduced due to a few reports of boom strikes. It was introduced at IRCHA 2019 and those reports halted further distribution of the Meg upgrade. Months down the road the kit included the taller hub and more rigid dampeners. If you have a Meg, it would be advised to get the taller hub with it. In the end, your call but cheaper to buy the upgrade kit if they are still offered as one.
