In the 8 years between the original goblin 700 being introduced and the Kraken coming along, we have had:
  1. 'Original' Goblin 700,
  2. Goblin 700 Competition,
  3. Goblin 700 KSE,
  4. Goblin 700 Black Thunder,
  5. Goblin 700 Black Thunder 'T',
  6. Goblin 700 Black Thunder Sport,
  7. Goblin 700 Havok,
  8. Goblin 700 Drake
Not including Urukay..... Have I missed any?

So averaging one new 700 model a year, but rate of new models has seemed to increase in recent years. Within 6 months of the original Kraken they brought out the yellow/blue 'lightweight' version. I guess SAB see it as good business. A lot of people enjoy always having the 'latest and greatest' model, so bringing out a steady stream of new models sells more units.
Yes, but those are all Goblins, and they're all essentially the same helicopter with tweaks here and there. A handful of parts make up the differences since the competition version.

If this "Raw" is just a Kraken, then why not keep the name? It doesn't make sense to me. Why establish a new name to ditch it?

Then again, calling the Goblin 380 replacement "Buddy" also made zero sense to me, so there is precedent.

I dont see the 'Kraken' name as any different to the 'Competition', 'Black Thunder', 'Havok' or 'Drake' names.. They are all just sequential model names in the Goblin heli lineage. For sure the Goblin Kraken model was a major design change. That doesnt mean all helis that come after it which are based around that same basic design, will be called Goblin Krakens.

You make a good point about all the models since the Competition (and before Kraken) being basically the same heli with only a handful of different parts (and new paint). I'm not seeing anything different here. A few new parts, a new paint scheme, a whole load of hype and the Goblin Kraken becomes the Goblin Raw. Exactly the same as when the Goblin Competition became the Goblin Black Thunder.

Did I see a tubular metal boom in the video for the Raw?

The 'carbon editions' were sub-models of the Competition, sold alongside them. Like the yellow/Blue 'lightweight' Kraken is sold alongside the orange one.

But I did forget one model.. the 'Speed'.. Me bad I actually owned one.

I dont think so. It's very hard to see SAB abandoning the most key defining features of what makes a Goblin a Goblin.

I know, and I don't like that either. I must have OCD or mild autism or something (seriously).

Around the time of the Urukay, Goblin slid from being a model name into a brand name. That was mostly fine because only "Goblin Urukay" doesn't make sense, and nobody ever talks about the Urukay, so I don't have to read it. The Kraken doesn't really get on my nerves either, because nobody ever says or types Goblin Kraken. It's always just "Kraken".
"Hey, check out my new Kraken 580". "Nice Kraken you have there".

So, in summary:

SAB Goblin - fine.
SAB Kraken - fine.
SAB Goblin Kraken - not fine.
SAB Goblin Raw - fine, if it's not a Kraken.
SAB Kraken Raw - fine, if it is a Kraken.

<tl, dr> I have issues.

Let’s just hope the guy who named the Buddy isn’t in charge of the Raw:

SAB Goblin Kraken Raw just might be a bit too much to swallow

Same thing I saw, or at least that is what it appears to be. Could be the skids too.

Got a screen shot because I've looked at the video closely and I didn't see anything remotely close to a tubular boom?

What you might be getting mixed up with is the smoke obscured image of a SAB Thunderbolt (TB) main blade at about 28 seconds into the teaser video.. see attached screen images.

They are quite clearly 100% certain standard SAB landing gear skid pipes and the white landing gear, as used on the yellow/blue Kraken. I dont see how you could mistake them for anything else, you can clearly see the moulded plastic landing gear leg?

I agree for sure, but my pic is not what is in the video, but I did think they were the same before I looked closely.

No, itís something with SAB heli division written on it, but nothing to indicate a tubular boom

Found this on RC-heli.de;

Goblin RAW is a model that changes one of the features of the GOBLIN.
In fact, RAW is the first Goblin to feature a" normal "aluminum tailboom.
The reason for this decision is to reduce the cost in the event of an accident.

When designing RAW, we were looking for the most modern solutions. It wasn't easy, but we tried… As you know, a Goblin always has to be a bit original!

The most important features:

- A cabin designed like a Goblin
- Main rotor and tail rotor identical to the Kraken .--
Tail boom diameter 35mm
- 100g model lighter than Kraken SG741. By using the upgrades, it will be possible to lower it by an additional 100g, which will make RAW one of the lightest models on the market.
- Lots of new small details (rear belt tensioner included, rear belt tensioner tool, delrin steering wheel guide, detachable top gear bearing)

Release date: Jan 2

35mm tail boom! Just like a Diabolo. I prefer this size booms as it’s proportionate to a 700 heli.

Sign me up. Looks like a Genesis and a Raw are in my future.

Wow, never thought I'd see Goblin go to a tubular boom. Their boom design has been their defining feature since day one.

.. Assuming it's true....
