Default Switching to Futaba? Receivers?

Hi

I'm considering switching to Futaba from Spektrum. I've had my NX8 for 8 months or so and have been generally happy but I find the build quality questionable. I always had Futaba in the past and though they were really well made. I went Spektrum to save some money.

Transmitter would be with the 16SZ or 16IZ. All my Helis run Brain2 and I want full telemetry. What receivers would be best? R3001SB/R3004SB/R3008SB? Is there any difference between the FASSTest and T-FHSS protocols? They're all similar price but I've no need for physical channel connections on the receivers as the Brain2 will use the SBUS2 port.

Thanks

Im using a 16SZ with Ikon2 / Brain2 units.
I have two electric models but am mostly nitro. All have all the telemetry features.

Just one wire between the ikon and the receiver so no need for a multi plug / channel receiver.

The two receivers I use are R7003SB (FASSTest) and R3001SB (T-FHSS). I cant tell no difference between which receiver model I am using other than the light on my radio is different.

Welcome back from the dark side! I would go with the 3001SB. T-FHSS is fine, and it gives full telemetry. Plus it's small and light, like a satellite.

FASST = custom made chipset = dual diversity

you may not notice the difference if you don't fly in a noisy RF flying environment or don't use gas engines.

they don't need to build great quality transmitters if they can sell very well the shit they make.
Futaba feels a little better but they are not using premium quality electronic components either.

Yeah, all I know is I've been using Futaba for over 30yrs., no problems. Everything I've had from HH had problems.

Curious what the basis of this statement is.

- I don't wear an orange shirt nor I am affiliated to any sponsor

- I am a Futaba user among others so I know first hand what premium quality is.

do Futaba use their industrial OLED technology on their toy radio's screens ?
Nope, they are barely using crap TN quality panels mostly unreadable outdoors.
Even the inexpensive Radiomaster radio has a brighter display and better CNC gimbals for a fraction of its price.

sure but they could just do much better... if you compare the current shit to the 90's radios...

I use the 7003 SB Fasstest in all of my heli's except for my Goblin Fireball, which has the 2001SB because of its diminutive size. All use the one-wire SB1 to FBL connection, and I also use the SB2 connection to my ESC telemetry ports on the 7003.

I chose the 7003 SB for its SBUS and telemetry, as well as the FASST functionality, which I understand MIGHT be more robust in noisy environments than the 2001 SB.

I say MIGHT because who knows. I do know that I have never felt as though I lost control from a radio malfunction, and I do know that over the years I have developed a lot of trust in Futaba products.

Futaba definitely does charge a premium for the higher end gear; however, the key to deciding on Futaba usually starts with the reliability of signal reception. When it comes to flying lawn mowers everything else is gravy!
