Default First 700 - RAW the one?

Apologies for flooding the forum, but I'm ready to hit the "buy" button on the RAW, but wanted some validation that I'm not heading down the wrong path by going with this as my first 700. As of now, my largest model has been the Logo 550.

I'm not married to SAB, but I've enjoyed the Goblins I've run in the past (380, 500) and if I'm being honest, I just love what SAB has done with the RAW, it's a darn fine looking model (in my opinion of course!)

Going through the posts here, I don't see a lot of negative feedback beyond being a smidge heavy for some - though I'm a sport/very mild 3d guy, so I'm not terribly concerned - that said, I found the 380 to be a bit of a pig in comparison to my old Mini Protos, but I still enjoyed flying it.

Here's where I'm at thus far:

YGE 200HV (I know 130 would suffice, but if I'm going all out...), Egodrift 4525-550kv, Futaba HC700's and likely 276SV on tail (figured I'd try Futaba for a change) and a Pulse 12S 5000 stick or two.

Still debating on the FBL - I was tempted to try the CGY760, but I'm thinking about taking the deep dive back into vcontrol/Neo for this one.

Probably overkill, but I recently caught the bug again and want to do it right

Sounds good to me. If you already have a Jeti DS-12 then what about going with the Spirit RS, or the soon to be released Spirit GTS ? No point shelling out for a new Tx when you already have an excellent one.

I actually have the RS arriving soon to try on the 580, and I may very well go the same route on RAW when the GTR releases.

I grabbed the Jeti as I've recently started getting into fixed wing models, and it's very well suited for that. I've used the V-control in the past and really enjoyed it, I should've never sold it! I've even considered trying the new Futaba 16IZ as well, but that locks me into the CGY760 if I want integration. Same story with Touch/Neo obviously, but beings it's a far more popular setup, there's a lot more resources available if/when I need some support.

Come to think of it, I may have a bit of a radio addiction

I haven't got over 90 amps on my hobbywing 130HV and the Raw 700 in 10 flights yet. I'm sticking banging anywhere from 1900 to 2000 rpm if that helps anyone.

I use the 200A HW in my 700 because of its BEC, not the motor amperage limit.

I'd go with the RAW. I almost bought one last week but got two scale fuselages instead (I have plenty of aerobatic helis already).

Yup, RAW just arrived today along with most my electronics, pretty excited - need to get the 580 done first. I'll have to give a scale setup a try one of these days, looks like a lot of fun

On the ESC front, I went YGE 205. I won't be able to pull that many amps, but the cost difference between the 135 and 205 wasn't terrible, so I figured the extra headroom would be worth it.

Wyno gets it......I just don't see the need for a 200+ amp ESC. I have owned 5 or 6 different 700 electrics, and have never needed anything over a robust 130A ESC.

I think large ESCs are a selling point and only required by the Kyle Stacy pro-fliers.

yea - i have a YGE 205 in my specter. I've never drawn more than 90 amps so far with my flying ability. i bet a bit more YGE135 would have been fine.

I pulled some of my Vbar logs last night from my 700 electrics and I had one flight that spiked to 157A, but most never went above 125A.

I'm running 690 mains, 4025 motor, and 1900/2000 headspeed.

Based on everything I know and have seen, my flying style, and my setup (headspeed/motor/blades), I don't see a need for anything bigger than a 130A ESC.

Hope this helps.

Just the info I was after! It'll be interesting to see what I'm pulling with the RAW (and my 580 once I get it the maiden done).

Sounds like the YGE 155 I have in my 580 would have been perfect on the RAW as well - a bit lighter too.

Careful, the YGE 155A (Saphir) is an 8S ESC vs. the YGE 135A (Aureus) is a 12S. Most fly the RAW on 12S setups.

Doh! I wasn't thinking when I said that apparently! I actually swapped the YGE 205 for a Kosmik for the RAW, 12S of course. Excuse the brain fart
