Default Beast w/ Spektrum DSM2

I've slowly realized they have discontinued the AR7210BX, which I've been using with my old Spektrum DX7, which I believe still uses DSM2 technology.

I'm trying to understand if I could use the MicroBeast Plus with my DX7. Could I use it with only 2 satellite receivers? Or would I need to add an older AR receiver as well? Do I just need to give up and upgrade my transmitter?

Any help appreciated! I find this very confusing.

Thanks

Your MicroBeast plus isn't DSM anything, since it has no built in receiver, so from that perspective there is no issue. It's just an FBL unit.

It does have a single satellite port, so you can connect a single satellite. I believe, but do please check, that a DSM2 Tx can communicate with a DSMX satellite, because the satellite is backwards compatible with DSM2. If not, you'd have to use an older DSM2 satellite, but I think it's okay with DSMX.

The problem is that you cannot connect two satellites to any MicroBeast unit. So if you want more than one receiver, the only way to achieve that is to also use a receiver that can also accept a satellite.

A 450 would be okay with a single satellite. I've been operating one that way for 10 years, or more. Anything bigger, they always recommend two, so if the heli you're intending to use it on is bigger than a 450, I would go with a separate receiver.

They're pretty light anyway, so it's not a big deal.

I think, the only thing you can't do, in terms of mixing and matching DSMX and DSM2 is you can't mix and and match the receiver and satellite.

Anyway, loads of articles about it saying what can and can't be done there, and you probably know better than I, but the key here is you cannot connect two satellites to a MicroBeast, so if it's bigger than a 450 you will have to also deploy a full receiver.

Thank you Sutty! That is very helpful!

I still have on old AR 7 channel receiver and 2 older satellites, so it sounds like I could use that.

I appreciate the help!

I have an AR7000 and a DSM2 satellite, on my 600, with an older MicroBeast. One of the first MicroBeast units released. Worked a treat with my original DX7 Tx, for years, the one made by JR, though in fairness I have now started using it with my newer DX18 Gen 1.

Cool Sutty! Thanks for letting me know. It sounds like I will be doing the exact same thing... except w/ a newer beast.

Default SRXL2

I have the 4651t as the sole receiver. It connects through the side buss, mind the polarity! This and the 4649t are quad receivers designed to handle long distances. I get telemetry on my DX8 that shows signal strength, packet loss, frames and holds. At most I get 2 to 4 frames. Mine is on my Kraken 580. No satellite necessary.

The 4649t plugs into the Ele/D11 pins. On the bottom of this link is the exact instructions to connect the 4651t to the side bus for SRXL2.
You must have 5.2.4 firmware installed on the MBP the 4651t. The 4649t will work with older firmware.

Thanks Vroooom! That sounds like a great option. And those receivers are very reasonably priced. I'll probably go that route once I upgrade my old DX7.
