Default School me on setting up a low headspeed 500

What all is required to drop the headspeed on an align 500? Just gear change? new lower kv motor? Or could I just drop the throttle curve down in the tx? I think I would like the lower headspeed on my scale build it seems it would fit better than higher.

Is it the older Trex500? I was able to find some 12T pinions (non-slant) for the scale helicopters I'm building.

it's the older one with the motor on the bottom, but it does have the slanted gears.

To see if you'll like it at first, drop the throttle down. Even at 50% it should still be fine. If your ESC supports AFW, then you can keep using it like that.

From what I see my esc doesn't have it, it's the stock align 70 esc.

But I tried a 4s today just for s&g's and it had enough power to hover at 100%, but I was fighting the tail the whole time, I may get a 5s coming and see how that does. That may be the happy medium.

this bird is built for higher tail rotor speed... so you may want to try to get a higher tail ratio if possible or bigger tail blades or best: both of it.

I'm still new to 'scale' and only building my third scale 500-size now. But, the tail is never as good as a high performance 3d heli.

There are some comments about tail authority in this article which was written by an experienced scale pilot:

Quote:
No question, the tail is working hard on this Roban Super Scale AS350 helicopter and tail authority can be weak. We have all gotten so used to the insane amounts of tail authority on today's high performance electric helicopter's, so this one can catch you off guard if you are [not] managing your torque. In the full size helicopter world, this is known as LTE (loss of tail rotor effectiveness) and the same precautions in the full size world to prevent LTE, have to be observed with this Roban.
