Default Egodrift Beta series - what are the differences?

I've seen these new Beta series motors, but am not clear what makes them different/better/unique?

Does anyone know what sets them apart from the regular Egodrift line?

If I remember correctly from when we had Vincent on the podcast, the Beta are just sizes/windings that are not very common and they sell them in small batches. If they seem to sell well I would think they make it into the regular line of production stock products.

The Beta series is mainly introducing new models as well as new stator sizes to the Egodrift line of motors. The new stator sizes are the 5040 and 4030 and the new models were the 4025HT, 4035HT. Although the 4025HT has been out there for a little while and no longer Beta. In the beginning there were no set KVs, but as people start ordering in different KV ranges I assume they will eventually move over to the standard line of motors with a couple of offered set KVs. Of course, custom winds are always available as well.

Hi Skeezix,

first of all thank you very much for your question and I'll try to outline the goals of the Beta program and what makes the new motors different below:

Within the Beta program we want to give you a chance of testing and flying new models and stator sizes pre-release (and more options than will likely become production models).

Primarily these are the new 40xx HT models, namely the:
4025HT, 4030HT (a stator size that didn't exist in the HS lineup) and the 4035HT.

It is important to note that the 40xx HT models are 2.5mm higher than their respective HS counterparts. This is due to a slightly increased base height that was necessary to apply a different winding scheme to the new HT models (which in turn also changes the turn count and wire diameters).
Bottom line: The HT models are not simply HS motors with different kVs, but really constitute new motors (that will perform quite differently - less amp draw, switching faster, cooler operating temperature).

Side note: For that very reason, the shafts (and shaft kits) of the HS motors won't fit the HT models, and there is only one shaft option for the 40xx size HT models at the moment (6x32 for 4025HT, and 6x38 for the 4030HT) and 4035HT.

For us, this program gives us
a) the chance to identify the most popular kV options that we will turn into "regular" items our dealers can stock (we're trying to help them by preventing them from having to stock all possible options)

b) learn about the best esc settings and setup combinations for the various models and builds, to have this info readily available for you (and our dealers) when the regular motors land

Custom kVs have always been (and will always be) available from the factory (at no extra cost and within usually 24 hours), for the Tengu (and Scale Collection) as well as the Beta Series motors, so please feel free to inquire about options not yet listed. An overview of all the current Beta motor options (already listed as items) can be found below:

The first 2 additional HT shaft options that should become available shortly are the 5x32mm shaft (Logo 550 & Synergy 516S) and 6x40mm (oxy5 with counterbearing & scale models), marked in grey.

The last entirely new stator size within the Beta Series is the new 5040HS motor for (very) large birds and speed competition (as seen at IRCHA in Greg Ringle's speed machine).

To clearly identify the Beta motors as such, they have received a special lasering design (the egodrift glyph on black background with a BETA Series text along the outline).

Lastly, we'll incorporate all the feedback from the users of the BETA Series motors (that are perfectly safe to run, in case anybody is wondering) into potential last changes and improvements before releasing the production models.

If you're looking for even more information and want to take a look at them and the available option, there are two episodes of our EGODRIFT Couch (a special we did for our 5y anniversary), that I'll link below.

Or listen to the podcast episodes of Freefall RC and Skidz up, where I had the pleasure of getting to talk about our company and the new models as well:

https://freefallrcpodcast.podbean.co...ent-offenbeck/

https://skidsup.fireside.fm/26

And feel free to send me a message any time if you still need more info, I'll be happy to help you find the right one,

kindest regards

Vincent

P.S.: This gotta officially be the longest reply I ever wrote, forgive me

As it broke the formatting, I'll link the two episodes referred to above separately:

Hello Vincent,

are there already any additional specs (esp. weight, Ri, etc) available on the new 4030ht beta motors? i am highly interested in trying one of them... 500/550kV for lowrpm Diabolo 700 (as well as maybe 1020kV for 6S Logo 600SX).

the Diabolo is actually running a Scorpion 4225 550 LE, geared 196:16... rpms 1100-1700 (mainly 1100-1400). more than enough power, rare tiny peaks around max. 5.5 kW @ 1700rpms, mostly <100-120A in peaks. no complaint about it, just typical hot Scorpion motor... expecting something that's running a bit cooler like i.e. the Egodrift 4525HS550 in my other Diabolo 700 does (i know, at lower rpms the Scorpi is out of most efficient range). so most probably will go 500kV and 196:18 (17?)

Ciao
Michael

Hey Michael

There aren't any specs for the Beta motors as there'd just be too many combinations to test them all - we'll do that for the main ones that we select to become regular stock items - but I can reassure you that the new 40xx HT models have proven to be superior to the correspoding HS models in every which regard: efficiency, amp draw, temperature, weight - even in-flight-sound; the last admittedly came as a surprise even to us.

One thing where this logic won't work is the new 4030HT stator class (as there was no 4030HS to compare it with), so I've put one on a scale about two weeks ago, as we were curious about the weight ourselves: And the 4030HT that I picked (a 580kV) came in at exactly 375g (13.227oz).

And please feel free to send me a pm to discuss which Beta options might be interesting for your build,

kindest regards

Vincent

... not only 375g light... look how tiny it looks in a Diabolo 700 compared to the 4525HS 550 mighty little powerhouse!

after some weeks with mostly bad weather, i finally found 3-4 days in-between to do a total of 10-12 setup & test flights with the 4030HT Beta motor in my Diabolo 700.

the 4030HT was replacing a Scorpion 4225 550 LE in my LowRPM Diabolo 700, geared 196:16... rpms 1050-1750 (mainly 1050-1400), 13.7 pitch. being a 580kV version, gearing is now 196:15 to have +/- same rpms without change in config.

very first impression in flight was "more power" (which i did not really expect)... at least rpm stability felt better - the logs confirmed that clearly. in the end i have reduced the 2 gov gains of the HW130 to default setting (from 5/6 to 4/5, @ 9 timing) resulting in still a bit better rpm stability (in general the HW rpm stability is not as perfect as the YGE-Ts), at the same time current peaks have lowered by ~5-10A. max. HW130 fet temps went down by 6-8C (which surprised me a bit, seems there is less stress to the fets now).

i've used it with vtx717 (just 2 test flights) from 950-1650rpms and vtx697 from 1050-1750rpms and the little motor was nothing but fun. other then on my other Diabolo 700, on this one i clearly prefer the vtx697 over the 717s (better agility @ lower rpms), but it was impressive seeing a 4030 motor swinging the 717s of a 4.9kg 700 heli and not getting into real trouble doing so. it was slightly above 50C after flight...

of course it is not as powerful as the other Dia with 4525 motor... but that's not the goal of this heli. in the end i can empty the packs in 7-8 minutes or fly 13-15 minutes with rpms from 1050-1750. i have not seen peaks >100A or motor temps >48C since some flights even in tictocs... pwm always <= 90%. perfect motor for my purpose - could not perform any better.

see attached first half of todays lunch break flight (3C, blue sky, sunshine, smooth/relaxing cruising & soft 3d)... unfortunately i switched off telemetry recording by mistake after 1st auto

Ciao
Michael
