Thanks Bob for the digression. Your "rambling" is as informative as your build. I had not understood the relationships between gyro settings/geometry and the reactions of the heli. For the most part I just follow the "how to" and never get to the "what happens if" or "why". Thanks again.

Never. I was talking about the other Bob. You know the one who rambles.

Default Be carefull, very fast prio speeds!

Just a word of warning!

On my 9303 I have my endpoints set at 100% and 50% expo. Now my 600 nsp is my first scratch-build heli. So I was flying about, taking it easy with this gyro, and decided to try some gentle piro's!

Everything went smoothly...

I increased the piro speed a bit... Wow them stops are sharp!!!!!!

Increased the piro speed a little more... Bang the heli suddenly goes NUTS! The piro speed goes through the roof and the bird starts coming down. I try to stop the piro, nothing!!!!

In she goes! Damage is minor, all things considered, and I found out why I lost control...

The one thing I didn't have sticky-backed Velcro (hook&loop tape) in was the flight battery. I DON'T know why! (Idiot!) I was using two Align Velcro "tapes" to hold the battery in and the g-force of the fast piro pulled the battery out and I lost all power mid prio! (I think that’s when the piro speed went crazy with no input from me!)

So be careful... This gyro has an insane piro rate that can take its toll on your aircraft! This instance it was an accident waiting to happen as the battery should have been securely velcro'ed in place (it is now)... Lesson learned!

Rob

You have to watch out with either Trex 600 (E or N) with Torq Tube and piro stop speed. When setting up a 611, Curtis Solid G, or Spartan, all of them recommend you adjust your piro stop speed so you don't strip gears. You don't have this setting on a G770 so be careful if your setting up for a super fast piro speed and then stop hard! You can strip gears. Some say putting in some delay on the 770 helps the stop speed. I will have to try that and see.

Delay? Can you do that with the 770?

PS. Bob, all of your vids are fantastic! They got me into heli's in the first place, I was only curious until I saw your trex450 build series, then I had to have one! Just don't tell my wife that!

Sorry I meant to say some say putting in delay on the 401 helps... The G770 does not have a delay pot. My mistake.... Thanks for pointing that out!

Working great Bob.. unfortunately my kasama tail/chinese weight mod/finless 770 tail setup plans we're derailed for a few days because I pulled a "fireup" this weekend.
Vids look great and when my LHS finally gets some more tail booms in stock I can get it all together.

I've got mine set up the same way on a Trex 500 and thought I would watch the vids to see if it how you all set it up. Other than a few very minor differences it is how I set mine up and it holds solid.

Bob, thanks for the Gain video. Somehow you have a way of making the light in my head come on.

Default Limit vs Bounce

I just wanted to post some info from my setups of the 770. I have setup three of them and have learned something from the characteristics of the gyro. It prefers high to full limit settings and shorter ball distances. I had two machines that suffered from bounce. I then moved the ball in to about 8-10mm on the servo and turned the the limit settings all the way up. The bounce back went away, and both machines perform well.

This bounce back may occur from the stop of a piro, or it may occur when you are coming out of turns. The 770 bouce is different from a gain bounce, once you have experienced it you will feel the difference. If you encounter this, take a look at your ball distance/limit settings before you spend a lot of time messing with gain/dual/exp settings.

I agree, on my Vibe 50 the manual said to run the ball at 17mm so I did and was having trouble with the tail bouncing when I gave tail input on the radio. Anytime I pulled left or right on the rudder you could actually hear the tail "bounce".It was like I had the gain to high but that wasn't it so I moved the ball in to 11mm on the arm and now its perfect.

Same here. So two mistakes in the Vibe 50 manual. I am running the ball on the inner hole of the 8900G arm.
